Obesity is the Responsibility of the Private Sector?

The obesity epidemic is obviously not the responsibility of the private sector. The private sector merely caters to the various governmental market distortions and consumer gluttony. Individual choices and governmental policies lay the ground upon which free enterprise acts to satisfy these market forces. If anything, the private sector is held more accountable than consumers or the government.

The Impotence of Technology

Whenever you consider the mainstream’s portrayal of technologies, you are only presented the rose coloured glasses’ view of the issues brought about by their introductions. Rainbows and Unicorns for all thanks to everything now being “smart”. No longer will you have to worry about any responsibility in life, the Internet of Things (IOT) shall be your master. You will become its helpless servant.

All devices will contain an ever increasing array of sensors that report all back to a centralized entity. None of which is collected will ever be truly known by you. A conglomerate of commercial and governmental interests regularly purchase this data from a shadowy network of data brokers. Your life’s intimate details are simply a commodity now openly bought and sold.

The era of scientific modern technology is properly hailed as mankind’s greatest achievement. Technology has become the equivalent of the idol in the minds of the majority. A false god that only imprisons minds and darkens souls.

Technology has failed us across many fronts. Yet, few question the failures especially those in the cultural realm. The misuse of technology by humans is technology’s greatest menace. Technology is nothing more than an extension of ourselves both the good and the bad. Nothing less should ever be expected of it. History has repeatedly proven that if anything can be abused. It will be proven correct again.

Dolphins

Imagine yourself falling into cold waters only to be immediately surrounded by two circling dolphins forming a circle of protection. The old sailors’ tale of a shark being in the water whenever dolphins perform this action most clearly rang through my head.

My new found sea buddies flanked me as we made the 100m swim back to the beach. They only abandoned me once in knee deep water only to return from whence they came. The Great White periodically hunts these very same waters right up to the point where the waves break upon the sands to stalk prey. This was the only shark that could have been in these waters at that temperature and time of year. Why does a dolphin protect another mammal from danger?

It was a weird experience for me on so many levels. I will never view a dolphin in the same light.

Civility is Dead

I’ve been around for more than a half century. Never, have I seen such levels of perfidy and ungracious behaviour in my entire life. It happens on the Internet, in real life, and in business. Almost everyone is either trying to outright fleece others or else forcing their will upon others. Honor is now nearly extinct.

We have never been perfect nor will any of us ever be. Yet, there are ones who gleefully take pride in making mountains out of mole hills . Unable to see the glaring imperfections that lie within themselves, they lash out at anyone who even meekly challenges their worldview. Snowflakes are encouraged, created, and flourish under this environment. Your inability to be objective will one day be your undoing. The World does not rotate around your ass.

Our political orientations do not matter. I’ve witnessed the death of civility on all sides of the political spectrum. Frankly, I am growing weary of all of the vitriol and drama. I refuse to accept it any more and will do my part to stop it. Learn to spread love not hatred.
